Who We Are
Improving Birgunj started its journey as Improving Birgunj Child Club, a community initiative led by a group of passionate minors from the local area. From the very beginning, our focus was on addressing the pressing issues of child labor, child education, and the overall welfare of children in Birgunj. Despite our young age, we were determined to create a safer, more empowering environment for children, aiming to ensure that every child had access to education and a future free from exploitation.
As the years passed, our vision expanded, and the club evolved into Improving Birgunj, a registered non-profit, non-governmental organization. This transition marked the beginning of our broader social welfare mission, where we continued our work with children but also extended our efforts to a variety of other critical areas including healthcare, environmental preservation, and community development.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we played an active role in supporting our community through relief efforts, including the Feeding Nepal campaign, in which we provided food to those in need during the global crisis. One of our most significant initiatives, the Roti Bank, was also born out of this time, aiming to ensure that no one in our community goes to bed hungry. Today, Improving Birgunj continues to be a community-driven organization, committed to sustainable development, youth empowerment, and social welfare with the goal of making Birgunj a better place for all its residents.

Founding Story
Improving Birgunj was founded by Saran Gupta, a young social activist who was driven by a deep sense of responsibility and a strong desire to make a meaningful difference in his community. The seeds of the organization were sown when Saran was just 11 years old.
Growing up in Birgunj, Saran witnessed firsthand the challenges that many of his fellow community members faced—pollution, lack Of access to quality education, unemployment, and inadequate healthcare were just a few of the issues that weighed heavily on the local population.
Determined to make a change, Saran his journey by addressing the issues closest to his heart: child latX)r, child education, and child welfare. At a young age, he realized that these were not just local problems but reflections of broader social inequalities that needed urgent attention. He gathered like-minded and created Improving Birgunj Child Club.
What started as a group of children trying to bring about small changes soon became a catalyst for much larger transformations in Birgunj. Improving Birgunj continues to inspire Change, one initiative at a time.

Our journey began more than nine years ago, fueled by a simple yet powerful belief: that a single individual, no matter their age or background, has the ability to create a ripple of change. It all started with the vision of improving our community, and today, that vision has transformed into a movement that has touched the lives of countless people in Birgunj and beyond.
I started this journey when I was just 11 years old, with a deep passion for social justice and an unwavering desire to make a tangible difference. The road wasn't easy, and the challenges were many. But I was driven by the belief that every small effort, every initiative, every act of kindness, could lead to monumental change. The path to where we are today has been filled with ups and downs, but the resilience of our community and the support of countless volunteers, partners, and well-wishers have made every step worth it.
As the Founder & CEO of this organization, I am deeply proud of what we have accomplished, but I am even more excited for what lies ahead. The road to creating sustainable change is ongoing, and we know that there's still much work to be done. With the continued support of our community, our partners, and our donors, I firmly believe that we can achieve even greater things in the years to come.
